It wasn't IN my bedroom, it was just outside in a common area I shared with my sister, but it was upstairs from my parents' bedroom and slightly privateish if you stayed very very quiet.

So I would pretend to go to bed & sleep, wait until my parents did too, and then late at night I would sneak out again and start stealth-coding, so my parents wouldn't catch me. It helped that the Speccy had a "dead flesh" rubber keyboard that was completely silent.
