Last year my family, siblings and friends decided to get off the Christmas consumerism overload treadmill and only purchase second-hand presents from charity shops, bric-a-brac stores, etc. As well as not adding to the manufacturing that is drowning our world it was a helluva lot of fun and resulted in some really unusual gifts. And it also helped the charity shops. I can heartily recommend this strategy as an aid to a less guilt-ridden Christmas.
