Here is something I think about often:

If we assume that science is captured and corrupted, eapecially when it comes to nutrition...

...why do we still look at all these tables about RDAs for various nutrients?

I would assume that the lists for nutrients in foods are completely wrong and probably outdated (think nutrient depletion in top soil) and I would think that the RDAs are also wildly wrong - for example the RDA for iodine is set to just the value that prevents goiters, but many other parts of the body also need iodine, not just the thyroid, so many iodine experts actually think that FAR MORE iodine is needed (and the Japanese happen to consume up to 1000x more than what Western medicine recommends).

Why would we think that ANY RDA is accurate, except for those were a certain dose is consistently lethal.

The incentives for fraud in this field are gigantic. Tweak the RDAs for some micronutrient, claim that some new fruit or vegetable has tons of this micronutrient - boom, watch the entire Western world go crazy and buy this food. If I were to invest a fre hundred million into some plantation, I would definitely try this growth hack...
