I have dealt with my terrible "too many open tabs" problem by dragging links into a folder.
In Firefox, at least, probably others, you can open a folder, and drag the lock icon next to the URL into the folder, and it will create a shortcut link.
That lets me save the site, and close the tab.
And I still have all the links to the sites safely saved into a folder where I can never look at them again.
