I will add, also, that for those in my networks who are still able to personally or familially aim toward (or achieve!) zero covid, IN NO WAY am I telling you to stop.
This is not a gesture of nonsupport. On the contrary, I am glad that you can, and your efforts give me hope. We did what you are, for more than two years, and I know what it takes. Namely a lot of "nope."
It takes not only a ton of will, but either a ton of isolation or a ton of privilege, or both, to be able to keep going with that, though.
For a lot of us, for a lot of reasons, it simply ceased to be possible- the costs of 'total nope' became too high. It's not just that individuals moved; there were seismic shifts to what systems are willing to put up with and tolerate. The media's all-out assault on covid precautions was really badly impactful for a lot of people's options.
In short, those who still can, by all means, please do, and we're cheering for you.
It would be great if you could cheer for us, too. 🤷♀️
