oshy (nprofile…vwt0) I like to think I'm normal about it.
I'm excited about it because if done right it is an amazing system to help people design and develop the things they want. But I am so scared capitalism will ruin it and corrupt something that should be free and accessible.
Right now you can still run models locally, but how long before more companies close off their models like OpenAI?
Then there's also the concept of ethics, the models are not designed to be put into a box of constraints and are themselves built off stolen code, literature and art. It's just an ownership mess.
I think people hate the idea of AI because of that fear I have as well, that it will be used for bad. To harm and marginalize artists, writers and programmers even more.
Similarly, the strong supporters for AI believe it already can replace entire industries, that it is perfection. The two already feed off each other in a cycle of fanaticism, fear and hatred.
I personally view it more pragmatic. It can replace or it can be a tool. It will probably be both.
If the large companies decide to fully replace alive workers with machine learning models then that's just that. Smaller businesses will still want workers, and personal projects will always exist.
Nothing can ever take away the joy that is creating art.
