there is plenty you can do to improve your experience, although choosing optimal tools improve the odds of a better user experience
For self custodial LN wallet I will suggest Phoenix Wallet. Low maintenance, excellent performance, if you are not very technically savvy, an expert with Nodes, servers LN balancing channels this is the best option maintaining your sovereignty since is self custodial and with best in class tech , top of the line, BOLT12 and slicing, your fees will be a bit higher but you will most probably don't care considering the excellent user experience.
For Bitcoin wallet, Bluewallet would be an excellent choice for small amounts on mobile, having your savings on a mobile is not logical of course. If you are technically savvy you will know about Samurai fork and you will be running that with Dojo, I will assume you are not so Bluewallet is awesome gets the job done. I rather spend with LN so not my preferred choice ...
For Desktop, Sparrow Wallet is quite releiabke and feature rich if you care to dig a bit, works well with several hardware wallets as well, so ideal as your saving tool for Bitcoin.
good luck, hope this helps
