First draft - me getting the story out of my head and onto a page.
“Before I could say anything, we all heard screaming. Even with all the other noise, we could tell that was coming from the direction of the lake. We started running towards whatever was happening now.”
Final draft - taking the reader into the story.
“Before I could say anything else, the screaming started. We ran towards the lake.”
I can’t get a final draft without writing a first one, but revision is crucial.
