I think one of my favorite things about Linux is the fact that, when you have the rights to install an OS on as many (virtual and physical) devices as you want, whenever you want, you no longer have the fear of "but what if my OS dies" or "am I willing to shell out enough money to buy another license so I can use a VM" or whatever. Each OS install becomes disposable, making one's computing life far more resilient and flexible than on Windows.
I literally just now was like "hmm, I need this laptop to work, I don't remember or care what OS is on it, let's just do a quick install and I'll have a squeaky-clean OS and a usable computer in about fifteen minutes." Yesterday I did five or seven virtual machine installs during software testing and development. That power and flexibility is one of Linux's most awesome features.
