Unfortunately undercut by the efforts of a sizeable portion of the LLM crowd (including more than a few clowns at OpenAI) to present LLMs ("AI") as merely a few incremental improvements short of AGI.

I would go one step stronger and state that LLMs are not AGI, *nor will they ever be*. (I admit this is a controversial, and potentially risky, statement)
