Ah now I get what you want. Yes, that's the only cumbersome way then I guess. They do take feature requests via their forum (but are not known for considering all good requests in a timely manner). Maybe a fork like Molly could integrate it; afaik disappearing messages is a client-side feature, so what you want could be one as well.
