Sony's cutting ~250 jobs in their recordable media manufacturing hub and offering early retirement packages.
They explained the cuts are due to a decline in demand for recordable storage media like CD-R, DVD-R and BD-R discs.
According to sources, Sony will "gradually cease production of optical disc storage media".
No idea on how long it will take to phase out stamped discs, but the writing's been on the wall for quite some time. There are fewer blu-ray drives being made, too.
