Maduro (and his friends) are afraid of going to jail. The scenario is all too realistic. Machado can sign all the papers today promising that they will not go to prison, but there is no guarantee that, once Chavismo no longer has a share of power, this will not happen.
Forget ideology. Certain issues in Venezuela may have an ideological background, but as far as Maduro himself is concerned, it must be clear that his insistence on remaining in power does not stem from ideological intransigence but from the fear that he and his accomplices have of the future.
