A few years ago, high off my own supply of the success of the JSMESS/Webassembly MAME project, I suggested to VLC to consider porting to Webassembly as well. They did experiments but it just revealed a huge and crazy mess.
However, we've had a number of years and improvements over Webassembly compilation since then. If someone wants to take a shot, the VLC.js code is here:
