In the Witcher, you can’t save the baby on that quest but you can save the wife and the Barron later if you want😅. You can choose to have happy endings on some stories if that’s what you are looking for.
But I agree with you the stories especially those in Velen are so dark.
The main story in the Witcher is just wonderful, that father-daughter relationship between Gerald and Ciri, and that love triangle between Yen, Gerald, and Triss. It’s so well done.
