Small towns fail because companies want to maximize profits. When it was fashionable, the manufacturers moved to Mexico. When that wasn't cheap enough, the moved to China. Those that didn't move, bring in immigrants instead of hiring locally. It's much cheaper to do this than pay American workers. They aren't taking the jobs Americans don't want. They are taking the jobs at pay lower than Americans can afford.
