I was hoping that since AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon all leverage Google's RCS infrastructure, that RCS in the iOS beta would work on Google Fi, but no dice.
It looks to me as if iOS itself needs to know about carriers rather than the other way around, the way most of the write-ups have implied. I bet Apple has just got an allowlist.
Whether that allow list gets updated server-side or with a beta update is unclear, but my money is on the latter.
