I don't know if they were maybe really afraid of a Progress Pride onslaught or of a Palestinian/Israel flag showdown, if they allowed any flags at all. Their wording sort of suggests it. It won't stop here, though. Kids will still have bumper stickers, decals, etc.

They used to have kids pledge allegiance to the flag, which I don't agree with either (because pledges should be voluntary and made by people old enough to decide to pledge). In fact, they might still. I feel like we're spinning out of control as a nation, with harsh new rules suddenly in place while the same government hasn't even rid itself of the old, opposite ones.
