Purple Emperor nasturtium bloom. I tried these this year and many of the flowers weren't that impressive (we have an endemic variety here that can shame the sunset. I'm a tough crowd.)
However some of these dark red velvety flowers are breathtaking. You can't really see it in the photo but the flower has a kind of dark iridescence, at certain angles the petals drink the light.
