There are a lot of remote energy sources (hydrologic and natural gas) where it is not feasible to transmit power from through lines, but Bitcoin mining can produce an economic output from those sources.
Landfills produce methane that is currently just burned. Instead, that methane could run generators for Bitcoin mining.
