Nobody has to have *bought it* for that price, they just have to have *offered* it. So if the "normal price" is £30, they can legit say "SALE: WAS £40 NOW £18", but that may only have been in ONE store, and sold none. Looks like >50% off, but is more like 30% off.

That's why I try to avoid buying stuff round this time of year. Your theory proven!
