For many critical political economists the theory of free trade was a developed countries' distortion of their own economic experience - very much do as we (now) say, not as we have done....

Economists have argued that free trade offers benefits for all, but a quick look at the globe economy suggests actually the benefits are captured mostly by the richest states.... so, protectionism & other international trade interventions have never (really) gone away
