Fungus farming ants are unique to the Americas, one of the stand out adaptations of the continents. They deserve to be celebrated and more attention. I wonder if fungi ants aren't found in the rest of the world for a material reason, or if the oceans have simply prevented them from spreading effectively.
Would the fungus growing ants take over from the leaf weaving ants? (the two are not found in the same places)
Either ants spin silk nests OR they grow fungi, but never both. Why?
