ODELL (npub1qny…95gx) Check out Odell's wonderful piece on the importance of privacy to securing freedom and wealth in our society. "No Privacy? No Freedom. No Freedom? No Wealth." 🔏
https://www.discreetlog.com/no-privacy-no-freedom/
No Privacy? No Freedom. No Freedom? No Wealth.
——————————

> Wealth requires freedom: the ability to make decisions without coercion. Freedom requires privacy: the ability to selectively reveal yourself to the world. Rights are not granted: they are earned through struggle and defended through sacrifice.

Privacy is essential to freedom. Without privacy, individuals are unable to make choices free from surveillance and control. Lack of privacy leads to loss of autonomy. When individuals are constantly monitored it limits our ability to express ourselves and take risks. Any decisions we make can result in negative repercussions from those who surveil us. Without the freedom to make choices, individuals cannot truly be free.

Freedom is essential to acquiring and preserving wealth. When individuals are not free to make choices, restrictions and limitations prevent us from economic opportunities. If we are somehow able to acquire wealth in such an environment, lack of freedom can result in direct asset seizure by governments or other malicious entities. At scale, when freedom is compromised, it leads to widespread economic stagnation and poverty. Protecting freedom is essential to economic prosperity.

The connection between privacy, freedom, and wealth is critical. Without privacy, individuals lose the freedom to make choices free from surveillance and control. While lack of freedom prevents individuals from pursuing economic opportunities and makes wealth preservation nearly impossible. No Privacy? No Freedom. No Freedom? No Wealth.

Rights are not granted. They are taken and defended. Rights are often misunderstood as permission to do something by those holding power. However, if someone can give you something, they can inherently take it from you at will. People throughout history have necessarily fought for basic rights, including privacy and freedom. These rights were not given by those in power, but rather demanded and won through struggle. Even after these rights are won, they must be continually defended to ensure that they are not taken away. Rights are not granted - they are earned through struggle and defended through sacrifice.

BTCapsule 🏴🧡 (npub1v6x…xk5t) One of the arguments for inscriptions on the #Bitcoin timechain is that it can house important documents that may get censored by authoritarian governments (eg, the Whitepaper, Constitution, Bible, Quran, etc). 📚📜 Nostr Report's very own BTCapsule 🏴🧡 (npub1v6x…xk5t) argues that "We don’t need ordinals or inscriptions to put 3d guns on the Bitcoin blockchain. We have #nostr for that."
This is code to 3d print a basic cube

I have not found a nostr client that is ready for text large enough to handle a gun, but it’s very possible

You just have to copy the code below, save it to a file, and give it an .stl file extension

Then you can upload the file to an STL viewer online and see the cube

The code was extracted using Python’s numpy-stl library

We don’t need ordinals or inscriptions to put 3d guns on the Bitcoin blockchain. We have nostr for that

dk (npub1kuy…kdj8) One of the draws of Nostr is that without the ability to edit or delete notes, people seem more genuine and courteous with each other. If you were curious why notes can't be deleted, DK does a great job of explaining why. 🤝🫂
Why can’t I delete a note in Nostr?

What is NIP-42, and why should you care about it? Nostr.wine creator, Mazin (npub18kz…x5sz) breaks it down for us. 🙏
How can NIP-42 help control the spread of DM metadata, you ask?

The problem today is that REQs (requests for events that clients make to relays) are not signed. As such, we do not know who a user is when they request kind 4 DM events for a specific pubkey. If you ask a relay for kind 4 events that don’t belong to you, the relay hands them over because it doesn’t know the difference. Though you can’t decrypt the content, you can easily see who the messages were between and what time they happened.

Enter NIP-42, client authentication. A relay can now answer a kind 4 REQ by asking the user to prove who they are. This proof is done by asking the client to sign a specifically formatted ephemeral (not stored) event (kind 22242) with the users privatekey. Once the client provides the signed event to the relay, the relay can validate that the user requesting the DMs matches the pubkey in their REQ.

This allows relays to reject kind 4 REQs for unauthorized users.

Disclaimer: this still does not prevent relay operators from viewing the events. I believe others are working on a more complex DM NIP to conceal the metadata completely but do not know the details.

walker (npub1cj8…rz4u) During a live discussion today on Cafe #Bitcoin , saylor (npub15dq…lm5m) shared that MicroStrategy has converted all their corporate email addresses into lightning addresses. Saylor later shared on Twitter that people now keep sending him 21 sats. Maybe Coinbase should give him a call. ⚡📧

jb55 (npub1xts…kk5s) shares answers to common questions he’s received in the last few days from new Damus users.
Welcome new folks! I’ve been getting these questions a lot in the past couple of days so here we go:

1. What are zaps?

Zaps are receipts of bitcoin lightning payments to posts or profiles on nostr (the name of the underlying protocol). By attaching a lightning address to your profile via a wallet like wallet of satoshi, you can send and receive any amount of money to anyone in the world in under a second. This is all possible without any intermediaries. Its uncensorable money over an uncensorable speech protocol.

2. What are relays and why do we need them?

Relays are regular servers and regular databases. When posting notes or following users, it sends your notes/contact list/profile/etc to multiple relays at once controlled by different people. We do it this way because we believe no one should have the ability to unilaterally deplatform you.

3. How do you make money

Still trying to figure that out.

verbiricha (npub107j…ncxg) https://filestr.vercel.app/ has previews for image, audio and video files so far. Verbiricha says it would be cool to implement PDF previews, use Threejs for rendering 3D files, etc. and he plans to make it easy in Habla to embed these files as nostr references. NIP-51 is really interesting since it allows you to create lists of file events which could be rendered as a gallery. These files and lists can be zapped, commented, bookmarked.. 📝⚡️📑
