Back in the 1990s, I new a woman who had been married over a decade, and who had spent most of that time trying to conceive. A couple years after her marriage ended, she married again--and was pregnant less than a year after that.
She was convinced she was barren because her ex had remarried immediately, and gotten his second wife pregnant quite quickly.
Of course, when something that rare in life is overused in fiction, it's BAD.
