Coders - The New DJ's
That's it. We're officially going to break programming. For example... I'm 34 years old and I started DJing when I was 17 years old. When I was 17 they had just come out with CDJs, and the technology revolutionized DJing. I was lucky enough to have some friends who had turntables, so I got to learn how to spin vinyl and use CDJs. I DJed for a long time, playing at different nightclubs across the country until I noticed that the environment was changing. Dance music culture was transitioning hard from being an underground, authentic, and passion-driven art to a mainstream commercial hedonism-fest. It was always about enjoying yourself, but now a different type of person was attending these events. People used to go for the music, but now they were going for the scene. I started coding about seven years ago, and I kind of just randomly decided to do it. I enjoy using both the creative and technical aspects of my brain. That's why I started. I'm noticing a pattern... I feel the AI coding tools are the CDJs of the coding world. I suspect that we're going to get an influx of people who start coding and building stuff for reasons outside of the art-form or authentic interest. They're going to over-saturate the market, change the tools, the way that companies treat us. It's going to disrupt and change the way that coding exists. Of course these things are always evolving but this is a certain kind of corruption of art into capitalist / consumer behavior. I think this is going to exponentially change it into a commercialized / mainstream thing. You're going to get a lot of people doing it because they want to feel cool or validated, or be a part of a scene rather than having a passion or curiosity about the technology or a passion for the art form. Feel free to agree / disagree. I love debate. But ultimately I'm just putting this here to serve as the marker that I drew this comparison / made the claim before others start running with it.
