Ballard continued: most people--even those who live here-- haven't visited the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks. They're functioning boat locks, allowing traffic to move from Puget Sound (sea level) to the freshwater and slightly higher lakes Union and Washington. You can watch the boats pass through. There's also boat tours that pass through them. The buildings (early 20th C) are interesting in that they're made of cast-in-place concrete. #PNW #Seattle #sculpture
