It is often said that extreme viewpoints spread more easily on social media, because they trigger emotions. But to what extent should we believe that this is a random emergent property of the algorithm that just tries to maximize engagement? I totally don’t think we can exclude the possibility that X, Facebook, Tiktok are — and have been for some time — amplifying extreme right content on purpose, as a form of propaganda warfare.
