"content": "it's the publishers. They are essentially monopolies that have control over our access to scholarly information and platforms. They have a monopoly on what people trust, in a way. They have captured the authentic labor of academia because they're the ultimate gatekeepers of how academics get judged. The open science/science reform movements have centered a lot on critiquing this, and movements like defaulting to preprints and community-oriented journals do exist but it's a war out there",
