I get email from LinkedIn several times a week recommending people to follow. This week it has recommended 20 people: 15 white men, 4 Asian men, and one Asian woman. I'm curious about its algorithm: as of March 2024, 40% of my connections on LI were female (didn't try to count race or ethnicity, wouldn't want to guess). Are these people paying to be promoted? Is LI recommending people with lots of followers (so that popularity feeds itself)? In a better world than ours this would be public info…
