Kobo Clara HD opened via suction cup and spudger, but the battery had no useful (to me, anyway) information on it, so I have ordered a PR-285083 and will keep my fingers crossed.
I've also ordered a 128GB micro SD card because, since I am here already, why not.
With a bit of luck, and £25, hopefully I can prolong this lovely machine for a few more years.
