Alright, looking down the simulation/universal consciousness rabbit hole.
If our "reality" is being generated by a collective consciousness, would it follow that it is foolishness to consider extinction events? If that collective consciousness is 9 billion humans big now, why would it create a reality that culls the vast majority of them? Also, if consciousness is universal or collective, why would it even matter to us if our avatar on Earth persisted or not, beyond this lifetime, which will be cut short at some point?
This may seem like a path to hedonism or nihilism. I don't see it that way, but rather as just a focusing function of only concerning one's self with that which one can control.
