The Forum members argue that the decision is legally problematic on two grounds:
first, it violates the fundamental right to freedom of expression, particularly for elected officials, suggesting that substantive debate rather than punishment should address such claims;
… and second, it represents selective enforcement, as the Committee has not taken similar action against other MKs who have called for indiscriminate harm to Palestinian civilians in Gaza, despite both types of statements potentially conflicting with Israel's foundational values.
The Forum is calling for the decision's reversal to protect MKs' rights to criticize government policies, regardless of whether such criticism is justified.
