Chinese scientists have made the first industrial-grade niobium-silicon alloy for hypersonic flight through an experiment conducted in space on the Tiangong space station.

The data from the astronauts' work allowed scientists on Earth to produce niobium-silicon alloy that meets industrial requirements.

The new alloy is lighter than nickel or titanium and has three times the compressive strength at high temperatures.
