It would be nice to see some actual study backing this up, because that's not how I understood it.
Mental illnesses are horribly real, but the most common ones like depression and anxiety are not an illness of the brain like meningitis.
For most non-organic mental illness, a standard brain scan shows nothing, scientific studies show small abnormalities which seem more likely to be caused by the mental illness than causing it.
