In the United States, fried potato strips (called "chips" in the UK) are referred to as #Frenchfries because to Americans they are so exotic, like a French tickler, or a French kiss, or French toast, or French lingerie. However, in 2003 the Bush Administration was faced with the intransigence of France, which refused to mobilize an armored division to preemptively invade Iraq after General Colin Powell unveiled incontrovertible evidence of the presence of weapons of mass destruction there. In retaliation, the President declared that French fries would henceforth be labeled as Freedom Fries, solely and forever. During the lead up to Operation Iraqi Freedom that same week, Turkey refused to allow the 4th Infantry Division to transit their country and open up a second front in the north of Iraq. Fresh from his success in chastening the French, Dubya then issued a second Executive Order declaring that the Thanksgiving turkey was to be eternally known as the Independence Bird. #CO
