Not just near future dystopias (V for Vendetta, Revolution, V) and far future dystopias (Alien, Terminator, The Matrix), but also young adult dystopias (Hunger Games, Maze Runner, The Giver), fantasy dystopias (Dark City, City of Lost Children), zombie armageddons (Walking Dead, etc), disaster porn (2012, The Day After Tomorrow).
David Graeber wrote an article positing that this was caused by a failure of imagination. Writers were finding it easier to envision the end of the world than the end of capitalism.
