A software ecosystem where many independent implementations of the same thing compete against each other, but one is vastly more used than the others, is often not a healthy ecosystem.
Example: OpenPGP implementations (GnuPG dominates and bullies).
Not an example: Python language implementations. (CPython is vastly more used, but as far as I can see, doesn't use that to get its own way.)
