But I'm not sure we can 'decide' from the effect perspective. It will be enormously disruptive whether we choose degrowth or whether it's forced upon us.
Nationally (in the developed west) we can moderate the effects more or less by moderating immigration. But globally, factors such as resource shortages, climate change, disease and war will force the choice on us.
