My contribution to #SuperbOwl is this photo of a Burrowing Owl I took in Brazil in 2022. This is the smallest species of owl – they measure on average 19–28 cm (7–11 in) long; and as the name implies, they nest in burrows rather than up trees. However they rarely build those burrows, preferring to reappropriate burrows made by other animals such as foxes, badgers, squirrels, etc.
