#OTD in 1891, influential Italian Marxist theorist and Communist Party leader Antonio Gramsci was born. After Benito Mussolini’s fascists took power, communism was outlawed, and Gramsci was arrested and sentenced to 11 years in prison, where he died on April 27, 1937.
