The planet is bathed into protons from the sun all the time. Should be positive in case and I'm sure is not neutral. Still if the charge was big we would see electrical repulsion between the planet and ever object in contact with it. I agree that the last decades has been plagued by half scientists that have to publish every bullshit to get funded. Still the basic concepts work. I'm an engineer and if something works it works. If you call it virtual proton or imaginary magnetic fields doesn't matter. The local laws of physics can be used to predict statistical evolution of situations in magnetic electric and gravitational fields. Transformers work, antennas transmit, planes fly.
