Apparently Plutarch says: “[Theseus] killed Damastes, surnamed Procrustes, by compelling him to make his own body fit his bed, as he had been wont to do with those of strangers.”
But he doesn't say whether Procrustes was too long or too short. What a thing to omit!
I think my headcanon will be: he was initially too short, After stretching him out, Theseus said sarcastically “Now I've stretched you too much! Whatever shall we do?”
