Finally finished the latest addition to Fortune's Run... it's mechanically still a very interesting, very ambitious game. But if I have to criticize it, I'd say it's still very railroad-y in parts.

The job presents itself as a Stealth Mission, with an objective "Don't Get Detected". The objective fails if you're spotted, but it's not game-over... the mission objective just changes from a more subtle to a less subtle one.

My problem with it is that it presents me a challenge (stay stealthy), but makes it so impossibly difficult it almost feels like you're meant to fuck up and switch to the more violent track. To make things worse, even if you manage to stay undetected for the whole mission (Difficulty Level: Impossible, I savescummed almost literally hundreds of times) you get railroaded into a big loud boss fight at the end that makes you go loud anyway.

It's not like the game discourages stealth and encourages gunplay, either. Get into a gunfight with more than one or maybe two guys and you'll die almost immediately. But at the same time, the window of mercy between "Enemy Unaware", "Enemy Suspicious", and "Enemy Alerted" is incredibly small, and in many parts of the game it feels like the only way to make it through is to savescum a dozen times and hope all of the dozens of in-game factors randomly align to let you make it through undetected.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel that if a game presents me with stealth mechanics to this degree, it shouldn't punish their use, and it shouldn't make me feel like I wasted my time trying to stick to them in the face of difficult odds. It'd probably be best to minimize stealth and make combat less deadly, or else keep the deadly combat and relax the difficulty on the stealth. Right now it feels like it wants to kick you in the balls for both, and it really drags what's otherwise a well made experience.
