as I understand the argument it goes like this:
1. Yes, ActivityPub already does all that we could ask of social media, but
2. The party is happening at BlueSky.
3. People don't leave parties.
4. BlueSky will turn to shit, so
5. We need to build on the BlueSky protocol so that BlueSky federates with millions of servers at various scales.
5 is a solution to the problem at 3 & 4 because then the BS protocol will allow users to migrate across this federated social media to come. They can stay at the party and leave shit BlueSky.
It is a neat argument, but $30 million is a lot of money. Imagine throwing that behind Loops and PixelFed. I reckon that would bring the party to the fediverse as people leave Instagram and TikTok. People would leave BlueSky so that they could have all their social media in one place
