The White House says President Joe Biden will apologize on behalf of the U.S. government Friday for its 150-year campaign to break up Native American culture, language and identity by forcing children into abusive Indian boarding schools. More than 900 children died at the government-funded schools, the last of which closed or transitioned into different institutions decades ago. Biden is expected to formally acknowledge the federal government's role and apologize for it during an appearance at the Gila River Indian Community outside Phoenix.
