It's the legacy of Jim Cantore, the pioneer of broadcast storm coverage. My favorite Jim Cantore episode was when the Weather Channel journeyed to Albany, NY to cover a 2 foot snowfall, expecting to see total chaos. As Cantori stood by the side of the 4 lane, snowplows were whizzing past at 50mph and traffic was virtually unaffected. It never occurred to the people at the Weather Channel that Central NY is barely phased by 2 feet of snow. Total anti-climax. 8^)
