Many of us know of Sister Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat in a street car. Do you know of Homer Plessy though?
On 7 June 1892 Homer Plessy was arrested for refusing to leave his seat in the "whites-only" car of a Louisiana train. He resisted the racist law all the way to the US Supreme Court. He lost the court case, Plessy v. Ferguson in 1896.
Plessy grew up in 1860s in a time when blacks had near equal rights. That changed. Like events in Aotearoa now.
