As far as I can tell there's no program like NLnet (applies for government grants, then re-grants them to Open Source projects) in the U.S. On the one hand I'd be the worst person in the world to start this sort of thing because I have no tolerance for government grant applications, but I feel like something along these lines needs to exist here.
