TIL: The word "donate" doesn't really exist in Russian because private property wasn't a thing in the USSR (everything belonged to the state).
The closest thing they had was "пожертвовать" ("to sacrifice"!)
Today, Russians use "donateech" (Донатить) - a loan word from English.
